FALL 2020 UPDATE

Hello friends! We hope you are staying safe, healthy, and active and that you are enjoying the first few weeks back in classes. What an interesting fall it will be! As you may have heard the Sports Club Organizers at ASU have decided to postpone all practices and competitions for all ASU Sports Clubs. That means us. It’s certainly sad that we won’t be able to be in our normal setting on Tempe Town Lake every mornign but we are beyond stoked to be planning for what comes next and that begins with our info meeting on Wednesday, September 9th at 11:30 AM AZ time. Unlike prior years, this meeting will be on zoom. That means you can join the conversation from Tempe, Texas, or Tegucigalpa! We are excited to meet you and answer any questions you may have about the current season and the seasons to come. Even if you can just check-in for 5 minutes, we would love to get to know you! Here’s the link for the meeting: https://asu.zoom.us/j/2151671250 or use the meeting ID: 215 167 1250. See you there!

Desert Sprints

This weekend is our one and only regatta on our home turf! We have been training hard over the past month and it’s time to show off our strength and skill. The regatta will take place Saturday and Sunday on Tempe Town Lake and will feature a very short, but very exciting 1000m sprint course. Get there early because there are going to be a lot of people. The University of Colorado, Boulder will be traveling down on Thursday night and will be our main competition throughout the weekend. With eleven of our boats entered, there is sure to be some awesome opportunity for spectating. Also, taking place right across the lake will be the Innings Festival - so live music will be playing for your enjoyment! See you there!

Spring Season Week 2

We are officially in the swing of things. Just about a month away from our first regatta: Desert Sprints. The University of Colorado, Boulder will be sending a men’s 8+ down to Tempe to compete. This is going to be an awesome event so make sure you come to check it out. We will release more details as the regatta approaches. So far we’ve been able to get out on the water every morning and pick up where we left off in the fall. We have about 15 new novice rowers who have made it past tryouts and seem to be learning quickly. We have an exciting schedule ahead and we’re looking forward to having the best season yet!

Back in LA - Head of the Harbor

We have arrived in Long Beach for what will be our last race of the 2019 fall season. The Head of the Harbor is always a fun race and we will face some exciting competition from our California rivals! The drive and rigging of boats all went smoothly and we had enough time to visit the beach for sunset. Races begin at 7:30 am tomorrow morning in the Port of Los Angeles. We will be launching from the USC Men’s boathouse. Follow our Instagram for updates on our race times and results. Excited to go out with a bang before winter training starts up!

One Fall Regatta Down, One to Go

Last weekend, the crew traveled to San Diego for the 2019 San Diego Fall Classic. Always a fun race, this year did not disappoint. For many of our novice rowers, it was the first time ever rowing competitively, and they couldn’t have had better results to kick off their rowing careers. Both the women and men’s Novice 8’s and the men’s Novice 4+ snatched silver medals. Our women’s Varsity 4+ and both men’s Varsity 4+ boats had tough competition from the California programs but managed a solid result. Both of our men’s pairs did well too, especially for their first time racing in that event. We have made the tough decision to not travel to Orange Coast College this upcoming weekend in order to get in some extra practice for Head of the Harbor that takes place next weekend in Los Angeles! We’ll keep you updated.

ACRA Saturday

The second day of racing is complete. We only had two of our boats out on the lake competing today and it wasn’t until fairly late in the afternoon but regardless, they both did well. Ethan Curtin placed first in the C final by a healthy margin - he was very happy as he crossed the finish line. Tohid Moosavy also made the Sun Devils proud finishing forth in his final.

Tomorrow is the big day. Grand finals for our men’s 2- and women’s novice 4+. We will be heading over early to the race course. Here’s the schedule:

Women’s Novice 4+ A Final - 8:05 a.m.

Men’s 2- A Final - 8:19 a.m.

All races of the day will be broadcasted live on The Rowing Channel’s ACRA livestream website as usual: https://livestream.com/row/events/8515327
